ISTITUTO COMPRENSIVO STATALE DON MILANI is Lower Secondary school with about 900 students. The students’ age goes from 3 to 14. There are about 120 teachers. The students have been studying English since the Primary School and then, in the Lower Secondary School. In addition to English they also study French and Spanish in Lower Secondary school. For all the languages, our learners, since Primary school, receive qualifications that are recognized globally. Some teachers of primary school have been using CLIL methodology to teach Food Science and art education, Safety Education, Environmental Education. Our school is only
music school in the area with students’ orchestra. The school is situated in Paternò (on foot of Etna volcano) , Sicily, 18 km from international Catania airport. Our school has been trying out a new model of school inspired by Don Milani (italian pedagogist). Our town, Paterno’, is famous in Italy for its red oranges. The most of economy in Paterno’ is based on agriculture. For us is important Environmental Literacy in three level setting school. Our students build environmental literacy through a combination of learning experiences in and out of classroom, including outdoor and informal education. Besides this Italian school has an experience in European Union Projects as Comenius and Erasmus+. Teachers have acquired
great experiences in teaching by using ICT tools. Starting from the primary level, teachers propose CODING activities. Further more our school promotes the “inclusion” of students with special needs by applying “inclusive” learning strategies and personal learning processes within their classes with the help of teachers and classmates. Infact, SEN study exactly ,as
them classmates, in the class with teachers and special needs teachers. We have about 60 special needs students from Kindergarten to Lower Secondary school.
